October 9, 2009: Fall BBQ

UPPOW's annual fall BBQ was held at Meridian Park this year. This event is a great chance for pharmacy students from all classes to mingle and enjoy some of the last days of sunshine. This year many students were representing their Pharmacy Spirit by wearing "Know your medicine, know your Pharmacist" T-shirts in support of American Pharmacist Month.

The Unified Professional Pharmacy Organizations of Washington was formed in 1998 as the UW School of Pharmacy’s own professional pharmacy student organization. UPPOW is directly affiliated with the following state, national, and international professional pharmacy associations:

APhA-ASP: American Pharmacists Association – Academy of Student Pharmacists

ASHP: American Society of Health-System Pharmacists

IPSF: International Pharmaceutical Students’ Federation

NCPA: National Community Pharmacists’ Association

WSPA: Washington State Pharmacy Association

These organizations represent all areas of pharmacy practice and influence global, national, and state policies that concern our profession. By combining all of the above organizations into UPPOW, we strengthen our profession into a more powerful voice.

UPPOW is a student-run organization with the goal of preparing students for pharmacy practice. Joining professional organizations as students gets you involved at the beginning of your profession, and enables you to sample all aspects of pharmacy.
